“The Traveling Democracy Lab” (2020-2021)

Aim: Education, democracy and media literacy activities offering citizens, as media users, tools and insights which strengthen the ability to independently assess the credibility of different sources and to distinguish between information and dis- and misinformation.

A Media Literacy Campaign in the Baltics and Belarus

Activities: Launching of travelling exhibition "Fake news" in schools, libraries and public spaces in the Baltic countries (Latvia, Lithuania, Estland) and Belarus. Carrying out workshops on human rights, critical thinking and media literacy.
Partners: Baltic Centre for Media Excellence (Riga, Latvia), Danish Cultural Institute, Nordic Journalist Centre (NJC), Swedish Media Council (TBC).
Funding: Nordic Council of Ministers.

Human Rights Challenges

According to the 2016 Universal Periodic Review from the United Nations, the human rights challenges in Latvia relates to, among others:

Violence against women and domestic violence
Gender equality
Racially motivated crimes
Human rights education for its citizens
Diversity, inclusion, racism, xenophobia and homophobia
Basic human rights of all detainees
Freedom of expression, of the press and opinion
Integration of minorities within the education system through intercultural, interethnic, and interreligious dialogue
Persons with disabilities regarding means to participate in politics
