21st September, Gunn Bjørnsen (Chair) and Lillian Hjorth (Director), participated at the international conference "Empowering Civic Engagement in a Diverse Society». 

The conference were hosted by Prague City Hall and InBáze Community Center. The latter is promoting partner in the project "A Platform for Civic Engagement in a Diverse Society» in which the Human Rights Academy is Norwegian partner, and the above mentioned conference is a project activity.

Conference participants came from Czech Republic, Greece, Spain, Belgium and Norway. In her lecture «Promoting Active Citizenship in Norway», Lillian Hjorth talked about how the different HRA projects promote human rights, integration, democracy and active citizenship in Oslo. By going a few years back in time, Hjorth also showed how some tragic events in the Norwegian capital such as the racist killing of Benjamin Hermansen in 2001 and the terrorist attacks on the 22nd of July 2011, came to define and develop a stronger policy regarding integration and diversity in Oslo Municipality, including the strategy: OXLO - Oslo Extra Large. 

Workshop for InBáze´s volunteers and employees

The next day, Hjorth and Bjørnsen organised the workshop «Fostering Active Citizenship for Young Refugees» for 15 volunteers and employees at InBáze´s Community Center in Prague. By taking part in exercises, discussions and listing to lectures, the participants learned good educational methods for creating active citizenship. Very good evaluations! 

Thanks to partner InBáze z.s. for cooperation in the project «"A Platform for Civic Engagement in a Diverse Society» in which the above mentioned activities are parts. The overall aim of the project is to increase the level of civi and political participation of migrants and Czech citizens with migrant backgrounds, residing in Prague.
