It was great to reconnect with our Bulgarian partners and to learn more about the many positive outcomes of the Active Citizenship Program in Bulgaria.
This said Lillian Hjorth, Director in the Human Rights Academy (HRA), after attending the program´s final conference in Sofia on July 3rd. Gunn Bjørnsen, Chair of the HRA, also participated in the event. The HRA has been involved in several projects in the country, making it important for the HRA representatives to meet with partners and other key stakeholders.
Over the past ten years, the Human Rights Academy has been a collaborating partner in five projects in Bulgaria. Three of these projects have focused on human rights education in schools and civil society, while the other two have been research initiatives addressing domestic and gender-based violence.
During one of the plenary sessions, Hjorth emphasized the importance of cross-border cooperation among civil society organisations:
Organizations and institutions working at the grassroot level in different countries must collaborate to learn from each other, sharing experiences and expertise. It has been deeply meaningful and a pleasure to collaborate with Bulgarian partners. We hope that our experiences will contribute to new projects in the years to come.
