Ukraine: Strengthening Democracy through Civil Society

Human rights work is crucial in Ukraine and is supported by an active civil society. Through the Nansen project, we at the Human Rights Academy will use our expertise to support the efforts already made by Ukrainian civil society organisations, thereby strengthening their important work.

This said Director in the Human Rights Academy Lillian Hjorth, after the project launch in Krakow this January, where key partners from Ukraine and Norway participated.

"Ukraine: Strengthening Democracy through Civil Society"

The Nansen project is supported by the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD) and led by the Norwegian Helsinki Committee (NHC). Together with organizations such as the Center for Civil Liberties (Nobel Peace Prize Laureate 2022), Frivillighet Norge and others, the Human Rights Academy is proud to be a partner in this initiative.

During the next three years, the project will:
  • Strengthen the capacity of Ukrainian civil society organizations through training and capacity building
  • Support initiatives led by small and medium-sized civil society organizations
  • Promote human rights and democracy reforms through advocacy work, conferences and networking
  • Support both fiction and non-fiction writers
  • Combat corruption, abuse of power, and social inequality
